This is an important question to think about. We all have an intuitive part in us, and some of us are better connected to it than others. Think of your intuition as a guide that not only helps you with small everyday decisions, but also with the big, important ones.
I remember not listening to my gut feelings when I embarked on my first career. On paper the career sounded great; good money, respect, great lifestyle, but there was this gut feeling that it wasn’t the right fit for me. While I ignored what my intuition was telling me, I fortunately learned a big lesson to trust and never ignore my intuition again.
Just like in the example that I gave above, something on a logical level might seem great, including a new relationship partner. Let’s say this potential partner has a great job, looks attractive, makes good money, has a good personality and is financially responsible. You might think how can I not get into a serious relationship with this person? Despite all those great qualities however, it still doesn’t mean that they are the right fit for you. Two great people may be great individually, but they might not be a good fit as a couple. Same with the career example I gave. It may be a great career for some people, but that does not mean it will be the right one for you. This is where listening to your intuition will help you make the right decisions.
You may already be realizing that one of the best things you can do, is to learn to trust your gut, and become confident about it. This does not mean that you have to make rash decisions. Let me explain more, let’s say you are making an important career decision, and you get this gut feeling that this company is not in alignment with you. Listen to that intuition, do some more research, then decide based on your gut feeling. The more you practice listening to your intuition, the better you’ll get at it.
Now you might say, well how do I get better about listening to and trusting my intuition? To begin with, write down whenever your intuition tells you something. This will bring awareness to it, and the more you do this, the more comfortable you will get at trusting your gut. If you have ignored it for so long or feel that you have made bad decisions in the past, it will take you some time to start building that trust. Don’t give up, keep at it and over time, you’ll feel more connected to your intuition.
Another thing you can do, is to meditate. Quiet your mind and focus on your breathing. Any thought that comes in, acknowledge it, let it pass and return your focus to your breath. The more you do this, the better you’ll get at sitting quietly without thinking of anything. It will also help you release stress and connect better to your intuition.
Being in tune with your intuition, will bring more ease to decision making. When those big decisions come up, you will be in a much better position to make them. You will feel confident, instead of second guessing yourself.
